Hair and beauty salon interior construction

At the hair salon TELAS in Shinsaibashi and at ひのき酵素浴 ひのきばこ in Fukushima, we started work from a bare shell. TELAS is a very narrow shop with elaborately designed fixtures and wall decorations, so we took great care in handling tools and materials. At ひのきばこ, consideration for the landlord living upstairs was also an important part of the work. For the hair salon 日毎 on Awaji Island, we made use of an old timber building, creating the interior while keeping the original beams and posts. The building leaned, and because it is joined to the building next door, the lean itself could not be corrected. Instead, we set true levels and verticals with the new partitions and brought the space into order that way. Since even a small force can damage an old timber structure, we worked while judging what could be removed and what had to be left alone.

At the hair salon TELAS and the barbershop 39ROAD BARBER, we paid close attention to the drainage around the shampoo units. At TELAS, this included the slope of the drain pipes. ひのきばこ is an enzyme-bath salon, where the baths are heated by fermentation. To suit this type of business, we carried out specialist construction to achieve the airtightness the rooms needed.

For TELAS, the design practice designground55 asked us to carry out the interior construction. 日毎 was designed by BENDS., and 39ROAD BARBER and ひのきばこ by ICHIMIRI DESIGN. At ひのきばこ, we held repeated discussions with the designer and the owner about circulation and ease of use as the work progressed.

At the barbershop 39ROAD BARBER in Sakai, we kept the design to the essentials to suit the budget. The owner, who enjoys camping, supplied their own gear, which we displayed on the walls, and we made the checkout counter by hand on site, shaping it to suit the shop while keeping costs down.
