[Awaji Island, Hyogo]

A new fit-out for the hair salon 日毎 on Awaji Island. Making use of an old timber building, we built the interior while keeping the original beams and posts. Being an old building, it leaned. Because it is joined to the building next door, the lean itself could not be corrected. Instead, we set true levels and verticals with the new partitions and brought the space into order that way. In an old timber building, even a small force can damage the structure. We moved the work forward while judging carefully what could be removed and what had to be left alone. We travelled from Osaka to Awaji Island every day for this project. The road is prone to traffic jams, so we set off early every morning. A space filled with the particular ideas of both the owner and the designer, and a popular salon loved by many. It is a project we can look back on with confidence, where those ideas came to fruition.
