天六ぼんてん

[Tenroku, Osaka]

天六ぼんてん occupies the ground floor of an apartment building on a narrow lane in Tenroku. An architectural practice brought us the project, and we built the new shop's interior. With little working space and a narrow road in front, we took the surrounding conditions into account from the initial partial demolition onward. At the back of the shop, a kitchen framed by a curved dropped wall creates a distinctive focal point. We brought to life a design intended to let the owner's welcoming smile shine. Near the entrance, a large table offers a place where people meeting for the first time can sit together. We made the most of the existing materials. The ALC walls were retained and painted. The existing concrete floor was repaired where needed and given a clear finish. Part of the ceiling was left exposed, with new ceilings installed where required. Working within a limited budget, we carefully distinguished what could stay from what needed intervention, finding ways to preserve the character of the design throughout construction.
